Bulldogs Battle to a 0-0 Draw on Senior Night

By Pat Labelle

It was a defensive 80-minute battle between the Canton Bulldogs boys’ soccer team and North Attleboro Red Rocketeers.

Right out of the gate the Bulldogs were granted a golden opportunity when a through ball found its way onto the foot of junior forward Paul Corcoran however the shot was just wide keeping the score knotted at zero.

Aside from this chance the game was played almost entirely at midfield for the first half with neither team really getting any quality looks.

A strong core of defenders led by John Agnitti (Sr.), Christopher Milne (Sr.), and goalie Abe Garber were essential to the game plan when the ball was in Canton’s end as Canton swarmed the North Attleboro attack all night and was able to keep the ball away from prime scoring areas.

In the second half Canton was able to gain some momentum on the offensive end off of good crossing passes and several corner kicks. However, the North Attleboro defense stood tall and the chances generated were quickly thwarted.

Ultimately, neither team was able to find the back of the net and the game ended in a 0-0 tie.

Canton moves to (5-4-3) on the season while North Attleboro moves to (6-1-5).

Despite there being no score, the game was electric from a student section standpoint. I’m not the biggest soccer guy in the world but I had a great time on a fantastic senior night. I’ll save you the suspense...awards!

Shrieks of the Game: “Skippity Bap!”

I’m not going to lie. There was a point in the game where the stoody was yelling utter NONSENSE. Other notable shrieks included (please don’t ask pronunciation): “Bzah!” “Cawh!” “Zook!”.

Song of the Game: “I gave my love to Karen” from “The Other Guys”

It is a song filled with rich history.

P.S- I have said it before and I’ll say it again, if the CHS choir needs anyone they should look no further than our student section.

Fan of the Game- Sarah Connolly

Sarah and I’s storied soccer careers go way back (shes only made me cry on a field 3 times) and while she still kills it for the girls’ team, her presence in the stoody is key as well. #GoSaGo

For a game that featured more “field goals” than goals, the stoody was nothing short of an electric factory.

Good effort from the boys, fantastic effort from the stoody, NNNN.
