CHS Feminist Club Game Night

by Sadie Gugliotta

The CHS Feminist Club is hosting a feminism-themed Game Night on February 25th from 5:00-7:00 PM! The club, whose Presidents include Leah Condon, Vanessa Truglia and Sophie Mak, hopes to bolster the stories of powerful women throughout history gearing up for Women’s History Month this coming March. Celebrating the voices of women and people of other marginalized genders is an integral part of the Feminist Club’s crusade: to form a community imbuing gender equity into the social fabric of the Canton High School. This particular game night is not only an honorary romp, however; it’s a fundraiser for the club’s annual trip to Rosie’s Place! Rosie’s Place is a Women’s Shelter in Boston whose goal is to provide food and a safe place to stay for women in need.

Community shelters such as these are sought out for many reasons as a haven nurturing connection, stability and welfare. Rosie’s Place was, in fact, the premiere women’s shelter in the US, as testified by their own website. The Feminist Club has made it their mission to support the work of meaningful organizations, such as Rosie’s Place, in order to expand their influence past the walls of Canton High School, and to display to its members the strength, resilience, and grit that may be found in the simple act of lending support. Through preparing and serving food for those that visit the shelter, students are able to feel part of a storied community rooted in empowering other women to live the life that they choose. Please support the CHS Feminist Club in their pursuit to aid the vital work of Rosie’s Place and organizations like it. By participating in the club’s Game Night, the optional donation of your $5 ticket will be put towards a Rosie’s Place volunteer fee to enable the group’s shelter work. Because now more than ever, the power to persevere must come from community.
