Year Recap: '23-24
Aaron Scibelli
It’s almost finals week, which means another year at Canton High has come and gone. To end off this school cycle, let’s recap some of our favorite moments from September through June!
Though we are starting school earlier and earlier every year, this past August 30th came with weight for many. For freshmen, it marked the beginning of a new era, and for seniors, the beginning of an end. Throughout September, student link leaders led orientation and guiding new students while seniors participated in activities such as the senior cookout and football games. It was a promising start to the year!
October and November marked the ending of fall sports, where many sports teams made incredible accomplishments throughout the season. For the girls volleyball team, it was a historic run, remarkably going undefeated in the regular season and ending the season 24-1 despite a tough loss in the state championship round. On the other side of extracurricular activities, the CHS Drama Club had its annual Fall play, The Wizard of Oz, this month as well.
As semester two and the bitter winter months, love was in the air around Valentine’s Day when Spectrum reignited its annual carnation sale. Thanks to all of you, we raised more than enough to push us into the coming years. Later in March, the boys hockey team attempted to defend its state championship title, though they were ousted in the sweet sixteen round. That month, the CHS Drama Club returned once again for their annual Spring musical, Legally Blonde.
April was a month of travel for Canton students. Over April break, the orchestra, band, and chorus embarked on a Disney World trip where they both performed and enjoyed the magic of the theme parks. Simultaneously, six students (myself included) embarked on a three-week long exchange trip to Germany, staying with German families and attending school while getting to explore cities such as Berlin, Amsterdam, and Cologne. With an Italy trip happening next year, Canton is quickly becoming a world traveler hot spot!
Once May rolled around, Spring sports began to wrap up and the dreaded AP exams took place, which leads us into June and finals week. From the writers of Spectrum, thank you for reading along this year and be sure to tune in next year for more entertaining and informative articles!
